Welcome to the Homestead Art Page!

Pop-Art @ Homestead

The 2nd grade students have been studying "Pop-Art" in their art classes recently.  Pop-Art is about glorifying everyday things and fast food seemed like a prime topic.

The students created "pop-art" tacos and hamburgers. They were very excited about using clay and loved the idea of making "food"! We spent one class period to learning how to make a hamburger and a taco, then the students made their own the following week. Most students made tacos because they were easier to do.

The students pictured are members of Mrs. Nagdeman's 2nd Grade class.

Would you like to try this at home?  You can! Try using "Baker's Clay" for your Pop-Art creations:

Baker's Clay

4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups salt
1 1/2 cups water
* dry tempera paint can be added to the dough or the project can be painted after it is baked.

Mix and knead until dough is the consistency of bread dough. Make your projects on aluminum foil. Join pieces before baking by dipping your finger into a little water. Bake for 225 degrees until hard all the way through. The thicker the project, the longer it will take to harden. Paint with tempera or acrylic paint. Seal with a brush-on or spray sealer on all sides.

See Morton Salt's Arts and Crafts section for project ideas with Baker's Clay.
